UPC FAQs

On February 27, 2023, United Property and Casualty Insurance Corporation (UPCIC) was placed in Receivership by the Florida Department of Financial Services. The Receiver, who is based in Florida, has created a FAQ site for all UPIC clients.

UPC is domiciled in Florida, after the 2022 Hurricane Season, the third costliest in the last 100 years of storms hitting Florida, the number of claims has just overwhelmed UPCIC.
Your coverage with UPCIC ends on 3/29/23. If you received a policy from TypTap you are covered.

If you have not received an offer from TypTap, and need coverage, please email our office immediately using UPCIC@DBins.com. By using this email we can expedite the process going forward. If you have received an offer letter from TypTap and accept the new terms, you will not have a lapse in coverage.

No. Although most policy claims are covered, certain types of claims, for example, claims for punitive damages, or amounts more than your policy limits, will not be covered. Additionally, the maximum amount of coverage available is capped at $300,000.

If the amount of your claim exceeds the maximum limits of the NCIGA, you may file a claim for the unpaid portion with the Receiver / Liquidator.

All Client authorized transfers are being processed with TypTap. TypTap, Rated A by Demotech, https://www.demotech.com/company/15885/ has been approved by the NC Department of Insurance and will be issuing policies for most insureds. For those that did not get accepted in with TypTap, we are currently shopping your coverage for the best policy to match your needs.
