Auto Insurance
North Carolina requires that all licensed vehicles carry liability coverages with a minimum limit of 30/60/25.
$30,000 for one person suing you for bodily injury.
$60,000 for 2 or more people suing you for bodily injury.
$25,000 property damage liability.
Also you are required to carry Uninsured motorist with limits no less than your basic liability coverages and underinsured motorist coverage. Uninsured motorist coverage provides you with reimbursement if the negligent party has no coverage and underinsured motorist coverage reimburses you if the negligent party doesn't have an adequate amount of coverage to fully reimburse you.
Other coverages available are:
Medical payments usually anywhere from $1,000 to $25,000
Comprehensive covers damage to your car other than collision (exp. Fire, wind, theft, flood, animal collision etc.)
Collision or upset covers damage from an accident with another object, (car, tree building etc.)
Generally has a deductible from $100 to $1000
Towing and labor provides for reimbursement for either a towing or the labor associated with getting your car running again.
Can be purchased anywhere from $25, $50, $100 or unlimited amounts.
Rental reimbursement covers the cost of a rental car while your vehicle is being repaired due to an insured claim, and can be purchased in amounts of $15, $30 or $50 for a 30 day period.
A good rule of thumb on how much liability to carry would be how much you have to lose. The more assets you have the more liability you need. We generally recommend everyone carry 100/300/100 and possibly carry an umbrella liability policy on top of that for a million or more.
